Relay for Life is a community-based awareness and fundraising event which was originally conceived by the American Cancer Society. Today, it runs in many different locations all over the world as a popular event for cancer.
2. What is Relay for Life Malaysia ?
Relay for Life Malaysia in Malaysia is hosted by the National Cancer Society of Malaysia and has been running in Malaysia in different cities including Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.

4. Is there a registration fee for Relay for Life Malaysia?
Relay for Life Malaysia has a mix of paid events requiring a registration fee and non-paid free events for which there is no registration fee
The Torch Relay is a non-paid FREE event
However, you can choose to join up and donate via the Virtual Torch Relay event
The R-Day is a paid event with multiple activities
You can also pay and register for the Virtual R Day event
Luminaria is a non-paid FREE event
However you can choose to join up and donate via the Virtual Luminaria event
5. How long do the Relay for Life Malaysia events last?
The Relay for Life Malaysia events will run across an entire calendar year in different cities.
– The Torch Relay event will take between 2-3 days depending on which city the Torch is being relayed to
– The R-Day event is a half day event beginning from about 6am to 1pm
– The Luminaria event is a night event beginning from about 6pm to 11pm.
6. Where do funds raised from Relay for Life Malaysia go?
In general, the funds raised from Relay for Life Malaysia goes to support the work of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia across the country. Click here to see the work that NCSM does: www cancer.org.my
However, each year the Relay for Life focuses on raising money for a specific flagship programme that NCSM works on for the year. For this year, this is for vaccinating 300,000 Malaysians with HPV vaccine and thus preventing cervical and other HPV related-cancers.

1. What is the Torch Relay?
The Torch Relay is a symbolic event designed to bring attention to the upcoming Relay For Life Malaysia and promote hope and solidarity in the fight against cancer. The Torch Relay is a tradition that not only celebrates the Relay For Life but also aims to bring people together and create excitement and anticipation for the event.
2. How many Torch Relays are there?
In 2024, two Torch Relays will be introduced in Malaysia by the National Cancer Society Malaysia.
The first will take place on August 24th and 25th, 2024, starting from Taman Tasik Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur and making its way to Manipal University in Melaka.
The second Torch Relay will be from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh. The exact venue, date and time will be announced soon.
3. Who can participate in the Torch Relay?
Participation in the Torch Relay is open to all individuals representing different aspects of our community, including athletes, local enforcement teams, community heroes, and the general public who can commit to completing their relay segment (Checkpoint to Checkpoint) within the stipulated time. Priority will be given to cancer-survivors and caregivers.

6. Is the Torch Relay a paid event?
No, the Torch Relay is a free event, and we welcome anyone to join us. Participants will be provided with an exclusive, limited-edition Torch Relayer t-shirt to be worn during the relay.

Luminaria is a night event, held usually the night before an R-Day. Luminaria brings together people touched by cancer from all walks of life to not only remember those who have been lost to cancer but also to celebrate the triumph of many over cancer and our ability to continue to be energized to fight cancer!

Anyone can participate in a Luminaria event. The Fun Run is open to all individuals of any ages including children; and there are specific events for different age groups over the R-Day event including for families, teenagers and young people, seniors, and of course cancer survivors and caregivers.

1. What is R-Day?
R-Day or Relay Day is a half day event, happening usually on a Sunday morning. It primarily comprises of a Fun Run as well as other relay-type competitive physical activity events including step challenges and team relay-races as well as activities such as treasure hunts and fun family-friendly activities. R-Day is an event which has something for everyone- in an outdoor setting and based on a foundation of physical activities. The R-Day is the cornerstone of any Relay for Life Malaysia held in a host city. Come and join us and get rocking on R-Day!
